Need advice on flirting for the shy?

sometimes i hate my personality. when it comes to guys, i am very shy. i am the girl who wont ask to play a game with the guy i like or talk to him because i feel like i am making things awkward because he doesnt want to. am i incorrect in my thinking that if i ask he has to say yes to playing a game or badminton for instance or talking? also what can i say to him that can help me figure out if he has any interest in me. please dont suggest anything offensive. remember i am a shy person
