My mum doesn't seem to have any expectations?

You sound a credit to your mother. Keep up the dreams and go for what you want in life. Don't struggle like your Mum may have. Your Mum will want the best for you but she doesn't know how to say it. You are lucky you have been blessed with some wisdom set an example for your brothers and sisters . Sounds like you come from a big family so I guess your Mum was just focused on feeding you all and keeping you all safe and clean . She was probably never encouraged when she was young and even though you haven't been you have been lucky to see the other side with the TV programmes you have watched. Don't blame your Mother she probably can't help it as she can't see that it's a good thing to do.
