Help self confidence with for a girl.?

Well the real problem is with this girl i have a huge crush on, I would love to start a relationship with her(as in bf/gf) and i talk with her a some we tease each other a little.I'm not sure if she "likes" me at all even though i'd say were pretty good pals, but my friend says she doesn't "like" me which doesn't help the confidence at all or the fact that i'm sort of the group punching bag,even though i'm kind and am terrified of hurting someone even by accident because im a nice guy. Last year my friends sort of pestered her last year and they said she just wants to be friends with me :(. I dont have a problem talking with her but i dont know if i can bring myself to ask her out. Well for some info on me, im a little bit of a nerd, high marks, into video games, manga ect. Were both in the high school band and i guess some of the problem is that her dad is the music teacher/band conductor. I have red hair and green eyes and am about 6'1. I've also never had a girlfriend before (no comment) and i need a bit of a confidence builder so that i can ask her out.also she's also kind of a "nerd" as in shes intelligent and well the best term would probably be teacher's pet or goodie-two-shoes
